Marsha P Johnson

During the Stonewall Inn riots on June 28, 1969, Marsha was seen as not only one of the main instigators, but as the vanguard of the gay liberation movement in the United States.

Following the events at Stonewall, Marsha and her friend Sylvia Rivera co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) to help homeless transgender youth.

We are inspired by both Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. While watching documentaries on Marsha, it seemed to us that she led by example. Sylvia on the other hand, would rush the stage of gay pride events and demand the same rights as the rest of the LGBTQ community. Why does the transgender community not enjoy the same level of liberation as the rest of the LGBTQ community?
